Jose Lopez Hits a Home Run with SSK Pink Bat on Motherfs Day.

Once again this year, SSK participated in the annual MLB Motherfs Day Pink Bat Promotion by donating dozens of pink bats. This significant event started in 2006 to enhance awareness of breast cancer and raise money for research. Proceeds from the sale of pink bats signed by players go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to fight breast cancer. An exception to the Major League rules is made each year, allowing players to swing Pink bats on Motherfs Day games; normally, strict color regulations apply during official season and championship games.

Seattle Mariners 2nd baseman Jose Lopez went to the plate thanking his mother in Venezuela on May 10th in a game against the Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome. SSK has been providing his game bats since he broke into Big League play. While some players hesitate to change their bat, Lopez picked up SSK pink bats without hesitation. On that day Lopez hit his third home run of the season over the left-center field wall in the 9th inning contributing to his teamfs victory.

The 25 year-old Lopez, who made his Major League debut at the age of 20, still likes gEl Chamoh engraved on the barrel of his bat. In English gEl Chamoh translates to gThe Kidh. Jose Lopez, a long time SSK advisory member, performed superbly in helping Team Venezuela advance to a semi-final game with Korea in the recent international baseball tournament. Lopez was selected to the All Tournament Team as the second baseman, and recorded an impressive batting average of .417 with 2 HRs, 6 doubles and amazing slugging average of .917. He also repeatedly made remarkable plays in the field. He wears a color coordinated SSK ball glove, batting glove and wristband to match his Seattle Uniform.

Besides Lopez, SSK donated pink bats to Bobby Abreu (OF-LA Angels) and Carlos Guillen (OF-Detroit Tigers) who are under our endorsement contract, plus many other frequent Major Leaguers who choose SSK at the plate.

We at SSK wish this important fundraiser continued growth and success, and thank all the players who participated in this meaningful Motherfs Day event. We tip our hat to their mothers and to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
