Kuroda and Saunders win Season Openers

The 2009 baseball season has just begun. We at SSK are very pleased that two of our advisory staff pitchers in Los Angeles won their season openers in televised games, drawing huge attention from baseball fans.

First Hiroki Kuroda, the 34-year old Japanese pitcher in his second season of big league baseball, was honored to start the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The right-handed hurler had a very impressive pitching performance against the San Diego Padres in San Diego on April 6. Kuroda limited the Padres to one run on 4 hits in 5-2/3 innings, pitched in front of a sell-out crowd at Petco Park. Hiroki picked up his first win of the year as the Dodgers beat the Padres 4-1. Kuroda has been a SSK advisory staff member for many years, since he was drafted by the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in 1996. His SSK pitching glove is uniquely embroidered as g18 Kurodah in gold on the outside thumb and his palm lining has an embossed gThank youh stamped in Japanese lettering.

In the meantime, Joe Saunders also went to the hill for the season opener of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim against the Oakland Athletics. The 2008 season was a career year for Sanders, earning him 17 wins during his first full big league season. Saunders lived up to all the expectations of his fans when he pitched shutout ball for 6-2/3 innings, limiting the hard-hitting Athletics to only 3 hits. A capacity crowd of Angel fans gave Joe a standing ovation when he walked off the mound in the 7th inning. He picked up his first season win as the Angels beat the Afs 4-1. The 27-year-old left-hander from Springfield, VA has been on the SSK advisory staff board since 2007 and wears a black glove with his name embroidered in red thread to match his uniform.
