SSK Announces Its Opening Day Advisory Staff Line-Up For The 2009 Baseball Season

Bobby Abreu (OF – Los Angeles Angels)
After another outstanding season with the NY Yankees, recording 20 HRfs, 100 RBIfs and an Average of .296, Abreu joined the Los Angeles Angels as a free agent. Bobby signed a bat contract with SSK last year. The 35-year-old outfielder swung a SSK hard rock black maple bat every game he stepped to the plate. Abreu was on the Team Venezuela roster during the recent International Baseball Tournament and he helped the team advance to a semi-final game.

Carlos Guillen (OF-Detroit Tigers)
Guillen is the newest member of our team, and the 2nd Advisory Staff member signed as an offensive player swinging a SSK bat. The 34-year old, three-time All Star, 12-year veteran outfielder from Venezuela was influenced by his long time buddy Bobby Abreu to switch to SSK rock hard maple this season. Mo-Town baseball fans expect that Carlos will get back to 2004-2006 levels when he hit .318, .320, .320 for three years in a row.

Bobby Jenks (RHP Closer -Chicago White Sox)
Jenks became the first pitcher in a club history to record 30 saves in three consecutive seasons, as well as the second-fastest pitcher in big-league history to reach the100-save milestone in just 187 games last season. The 6f-3h 275 lbs right handed hurler established himself as a dominant closer in only 3 years after making an impressive debut in the 2005 season when he closed the 2005 World Series Championship for the Chicago White Sox. He wears a black SSK glove – Grid Web /unique closed back with Silver Bullet Logo.

Hiroki Kuroda (RHP Starter- Los Angeles Dodgers)
Although Kurodafs regular season record (9 wins-10-losses) for his Big league debut year was less than expected, Hiroki did an outstanding job earning 2 wins in post-season play for his two starts. Manager Torre appointed Kuroda the starting pitcher for the2009 season opener against the San Diego Padres. The 34-year old right-handed pitcher from Japan wears a Black SSK glove –Grid Web / Open Back with Finger Stall to avoid tipping.

Jose Lopez (INF-Seattle Mariners)
The 2008 season was a career year for Lopez, when he recorded an Ave. 297, HR 17, RBI 89 and hit 191 for 159 games. He made a big league debut at a tender the age of 20 from the farm system of the Seattle Mariners in 2004. The 6f, 205 lbs Venezuelan was selected as the best second baseman of the Internal Baseball All Tournament this spring. Lopez wears a color coordinated SSK ball glove, batting glove and wristband to match his Seattle uniform.

Joe Saunders (LHP Starter-Los Angeles Angels)
Saunders enjoyed an outstanding year in 2008 when he earned a team leading 17 wins for his 31 starts for the Angels and joined the American League All Start corps in New York. Manager Scioscia decided to give the ball to Joe for the season starter against Oakland. The Virginia Tech alumni has a SSK black glove with an embroidered burgundy VT logo. The 6f3h, 27 years old southpaw is expected to repeat the same success as last season helping lead the team toward post-season games.

Reggie Willits (OF – Los Angeles Angels)
Willits had an unfortunate year in 2008 as he recorded .194 for 82 games, and was often used as an offensive replacement player. The 27-year-old Oklahoma standout was optioned to AAA Salt Lake to start the 2009 season, but will be called up anytime during the season when other players get hurt. He wears a black SSK glove with Net Web / open back style.
