SSK serves the official supplier of Umpire Uniform & Equipment at World Cup Taiwan e07

The 37th World Cup Baseball (WCB) Tournament was held in Taiwan from Nov. 6th to Nov. 18th under the auspices of the IBAF (International Baseball Federation) headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. The WCB started in England back in 1938 and is played every two years. This year 16 countries participated in the 12 day event, including the USA, Canada, Cuba, Japan etc. The Dominican Republic was not included though Venezuela, Mexico and Panama sent teams from the Caribbean and Central American regions. Professional players have been allowed to play in the tournament since 2001.

The USA sent young players from AAA and AA minor league teams and the USA team was managed by Davy Johnson, former manager of the Orioles, Mets and LA Dodgers. Team USA won the gold medal for the first time since 1974, after beating the defending champion Cuban team 6-3. Cubafs nine successive championship at the WBC tournament finally came to an end. The third place winner was Japan who defeated the Netherlands 5-0 in the bronze medal game. USA pitcher, Jayson Nix, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

SSK Corporation provided uniforms and equipment for the 34 umpires who serve this tournament. SSK has been the official sponsor of IBAF since 1993 and has fully equipped world class umpires representing their respective continents for the past three Olympic games (Atlanta, Sydney and Athens). All umpires during the 2008 Beijing Olympic games will wear SSK umpire products from head to toe. SSK has been the official supplier of all Central League Umpire Crews of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) since 2005. SSK is currently the uniform sponsor of the Netherlands National Team, the number one ranked team in the European region.
