Netherlands National Team clinches a berth in Beijing Olympics

With its victory in the European Championship, the Netherlands becomes the fourth country to qualify for Beijing 2008 along with the host county China, Cuba and the USA. The remaining four countries are to be determined later this year. SSK was selected as the official uniform supplier of the Netherlands National Team earlier this year.

Robert Eehoorn is a former Major League player who played for New York Yankees and California Angels in the early 1990s. Born in Rotterdam, Robert is also a former member of the Dutch National Team playing in the 1988 Seoul and 2000 Sydney games. SSK supplied Robert with his baseball equipment and he really appreciated the quality of our products and service. Eehoorn was appointed manager for the 2004 Dutch Olympic team at the Athens Games as well as the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

Eehoorn was very interested in SSK’s made in Japan uniforms because of our high-tech textile materials and excellent workmanship. We presented several designs featuring their national colors for their consideration. It took us only a couple of months to complete the whole project, including the pattern work, sewing and marking. The Netherlands Baseball Federation officially endorsed Eehoorn’s proposal that SSK becomes the exclusive supplier of their National Team Uniform. Our contract, which runs to the end of 2008, includes other SSK apparel items such as batting practice jerseys, dugout jackets, thermal undershirts etc.

The 2008 Beijing Olympics mark the Netherland’s fifth appearance since baseball became a gold medal sport in 1992 at the Barcelona games. They have not had any luck in the medal race so far, but under the strong leadership of Eehoorn, the Netherlands has become increasingly competitive, recruiting young talented Dutch-American players currently playing in the Minor Leagues in the USA. The Netherlands beat Cuba at the 2004 Athens games and was recognized as one of stronger teams in the international tournament.

SSK hopes that its sponsorship of the Netherlands National Team will get a lot of attention from baseball loving people around the world and help promote the SSK brand at the Olympic Games to be staged in Beijing next summer.

Our best wishes go to Robert and his players along with our hopes that they win a medal next summer and bring pride, joy and excitement to the Dutch people.
