Bobby Abreu Named 2009 MVP of SSK Big League Advisory Staff

SSK is very pleased to announce that Bobby Abreue of the Los Angeles Angels was named SSKfs Most Valuable Player of the Year. Abreu completed another outstanding season (his 13th in Major Leauge baseball) with a .293 batting average, 96 runs, 103 runs batted in, 30 stolen bases and 94 walks.

The 35 year old Venezuelan played in 152 games, making him the fifth player in history to play in at least 150 games in 12 straight seasons. He also topped 100 RBIs for the seventh year in a row, stole at least 20 bases for the 11th consecutive season and became the sixth player ever to collect 250 home runs, 2,000 hits, 1,000 runs, 1,000 RBIs, 1,000 walks and 300 stolen bases. Bobbyfs most memorable moment of 2009 season was when he made his 2,000th career hit on June 7th at Comerica Park against the Detroit Tigers.

Early in the spring, Abreu signed a one year deal with the Angels after he became a free agent from the NY Yankees, he helped the Angeles reach post season play for their 5 th time in 6 years (ending the season just two games from advancing to the World Series). Basball fans have respected his consitancy and leadership. The team did not waste any time to reward a two-year contract extension with a one year option.

Bobby remembers that he instantly loved the feel and balance of his SSK hard rock maple bats and was very impressed with the quality and craftsmanship when he received complimentary bats from a company representative in New York several years ago. He always appreciates SSK meets all his expectations and strong demands regarding quality control, including precise weight balance, specific barrel length/diameter and his favorite handle and grip shape.

His most comfortable weight is 32 oz. for bat lengths of 34h or 34.5h. The 13-year veteran left handed hitter was the first SSK bat endorser in many years. Now, a lot of players not only from the Caribbean but also Americans now follow Bobby -- swinging SSK bats inspired by his huge success. Abreu is one of 60 big players swinging SSK bats in the game. He swung a SSK natural and/or black maple bat with a companyfs signature bullet logo for the entire year.

We at SSK sincerely wish Bobby continued health and success while hitting toward his next milestone – the 2010 World Series.
