Four SSK Players Representing LA Teams To Appear In Post-Season Play

The 2009 regular season has just ended with the Minnesota Twins beating the Detroit Tigers in a dramatic one-day play-off, and clinched a final berth of American League Central. The best of five Division Series will open on Oct. 7th. SSK congratulates the four Major League advisory staff players who are competing in post-season play, all representing Los Angeles teams.

■Bobby Abreu – Outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels
Bobby joined the LA Angels this spring upon obtaining free agency from the NY Yankees and he met all expectations by leading his new team into their 4th post-season appearance in 5 years. Abreu played 152 games to become only the fifth player in major league history to play at least 150 games in 12 consecutive seasons with a brilliant record: an average of .293, 15 HRs, 103 RBIs along with 30 stolen bases. This is his 4th play-off appearance of his 14-year MLB career. He has swung an SSK maple bat for years.

■Joe Saunders – Left Handed Starter of the Los Angeles Angels
Joe had another outstanding season and helped lead the team into post-season play as he earned 16 wins -7 losses , an ERA of 4.60 and 102 strike outs in 31 starts. Saunders impressed everybody when he won 6 consecutive games down the stretch upon exiting the disabled list in a span of about 2 weeks. The 26-year old lefthander will be making his second consecutive play-off appearance. His favorite style of SSK glove is a 12-3/4”, black open back model with weaved web.

■Reggie Willits – Utility Outfield of the Los Angeles Angels
Reggie is very excited to make the cut to the post-season roster three years in a row. His playing time was limited and he hit only .213 in 49 games. But Manager Scioscia needs Willits to make his small ball viable. He can bunt, run and provide late-inning defensive help and could play a key role to win games. His SSK glove is 13” black, open back style with T net modified web / tan color lacing.

■Hiroki Kurdoa – Right Handed Starter for the Los Angeles Dodgers
Kuroda is very unfortunate that he will not able to pitch in the first round of play off games because he suffers a slightly bulging disc in his neck. A veteran right-hander from Japan, he was on the disabled list twice this season while starting 21 games and won 8 games with ERA 3.78 Kuroda did an excellent job last year when he won two post season games against Cubs and Phillies despite being in his MLB rookie year. Hiroki is hopeful to recover from his injury and pitch in the World Series. Kuroda wears a 11-3/4” black SSK glove, open back with guard web.

In addition to SSK official advisory staff members, you can see several players swing SSK bats and wear SSK foot guards to protect their shins and ankles. SSK signature fungo bats are still the number one choice of Major League managers and coaches.

We at SSK wish the players all the best as they seek to bring a World Series Championship Trophy back to Los Angeles either by the LA Dodgers (since 1988) or LA Angels (since 2002).
